Introducing a Virtual Ferrari F10

Ferraris are perhaps some of the most popular models that are included in car games nowadays. Indeed, they have been a staple of many such games even on machines from way back in the 80's. And probably one of the most commonly featured car from their line is the famous F1 race car.

Thus, it's not surprising that Ferrari themselves would actually join in the video game bandwagon and release a game based on their own cars. And this is where the Ferrari Virtual Academy, which was released last Sept. 9, comes in. The game is available for download from its website and will cost gamers around $19.

The game received a lot of attention upon its announcement a few months back, as this would be one of the first games developed and released by a major car manufacturer. Most of the games that feature specific car makers are often made by third party developers, with the vehicle designs being licensed by the manufacturers. This is the first time a major car maker handled all the production details, even getting their own developers just for the game.

So is the game worth all the hype? If you look at the simplistic opening menu once you launched the game, then you will likely be tempted to answer no. But of course, that's just the beginning, once you start your first race, then you will see what the whole game is all about.

One of the biggest attractions of the game is the car itself. Here you will get the chance to drive an exact virtual copy of the current Ferrari F10 car used in the Grand Prix. How exact, you might ask? Well, aside from the meticulously rendered exterior details of the car, its actual performance on the virtual track is closely modeled on the data gathered by Ferrari on the real F!) ride. Thus, the car will handle as if it is the real thing.

One real downer with the game is that it doesn't have a multiplayer mode. There are also no AI competition here, as you will only be doing time trials the whole time. Though, you will also be able to watch some of racer Felipe Massa's laps and try to match his best times. However, if you are looking for a more competitive racing game, this might not be it.

Overall, the game will be a good experience for anyone wanting to try their hands on driving a Ferrari F10. The game is realistic enough to offer a good simulation. And it's also compatible with most steering wheel controllers, if you want to have a more real life run. Now, wonder when will Ferrari decide to make a full fledged racing game.
